I wanted to thank everyone who attended my 82nd birthday party at the Greenwood Community Center on Sept. 3.

Thanks to the gentlemen from Vectren for their work on the United Way Day of Caring. They accomplished all on our list and then some. They even hauled away a trunk-load of junk. We were grateful for their courtesy, swiftness and willingness to lend a helping hand. Also thanks to the eight young girls from Center Grove High School who washed the walls down in every room at the senior center.

Thanks so much to Greg Lewis for stopping and changing our flat tire on Saturday. We will never forget what you did.

Many, many thanks to the Humane Society Johnson County amazing volunteers who helped make the 14th annual Paw Pounder Dog Walk a fantastic success. Also, special thanks to the Franklin Parks & Recreation Department, Franklin Community Middle School PAWS Club, Franklin Community High School K-9 Service Club and Franklin College Passion for Paws Club for your hard work and enthusiasm. Additional thanks to Johnson County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, the Kasey Program and the Johnson County Paw Pounder 4-H Club for your amazing demonstrations. Thanks to all of you, the Humane Society can make an even bigger impact in the welfare of animals in our community.

Congratulations for the Daily Journal front page coverage on using (tax increment financing) funds for special projects. This topic has long needed examination because it unfairly takes tax funds away from other agencies such as schools, resulting in an increase in those tax rates.

Many hearts to the Johnson County Museum of History for sponsoring and hosting the sixth annual Adult Spelling Bee for the Johnson County Public Library’s Adult Learning Center. We were grateful to have our event at such a wonderful location in the heart of Johnson County. This event helps to raise awareness for the Adult Learning Center and the free services we provide for adults.

Wendy Preilis,

Adult Learning Center coordinator,

Johnson County Public Library

Special thanks also go out to the International Literacy Month Committee members and library staff, Diane Black, our wonderful emcee for the event, Huarong Li, a learning center volunteer, Rock ‘n Roll Pizza Café and all 10 teams that competed in the spelling bee. We hope to see you all again next year.

Adult Learning Center coordinator,
