Construction on a project intended to reduce traffic in a busy area for southside commuters will begin next week.
The $40 million project is expected to ease traffic caused by drivers using ramps between Interstate 65 and Interstate 465. Every day, more than 100,000 motorists pass through the interchange.
The project will create new lanes that will allow drivers to enter at Southport Road and exit onto I-465 without having to merge onto I-65. A flyover ramp will replace the current loop ramp at the I-465 westbound entrance onto southbound I-65.
