A balanced scoring attack and a sound defensive effort lifted Class 4A Martinsville past the host Indian Creek boys basketball team, 69-42, Friday night.

The win marked the seventh consecutive time the Artesians, coached by Kip Staggs, the former athletics director at Franklin Community High School, have beaten the Class 3A Braves.

Martinsville spurted to a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, then stretched its lead when Indian Creek’s primary scoring threats — senior Austin Smith and his younger brother Cam Smith — went to the bench with two personal fouls each.
