The southbound lane of Interstate 65 near Whiteland is now open following a seven-vehicle crash this morning.
The crash, which occurred several hours ago, involved three semitrailers and four other vehicles that were traveling too fast for the icy, snowy road conditions, Indiana State Police Sgt. Richard Myers said. No one was hurt in the crash, but the southbound lane of the interstate was shut down until about 12:20 p.m., Myers said.
The northbound lane of I-65 outside of Edinburgh also had to be shut down for two hours at 2 a.m. after a semitrailer became stuck, Myers said.
Between six and seven inches of snow fell around Johnson County on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, National Weather Service officials said. That prompted the area's public schools to close for the day, meaning students have missed between five and seven days of school since the start of the semester.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office also responded to calls from five drivers who had driven off the road, and five others involved in traffic accidents, Sheriff Doug Cox said.
