When Johnson County residents cast their ballot for state senator this year, they’ll have a mix of veteran legislators and first-time candidates to choose from.
In one race, two candidates with 12 years of legislative experience between them will square off. The other will feature two men vying for their first shot at the Statehouse.
Voters will choose senators in the 36th and 37th districts this coming election. Candidates said the races revolve around the ability to create more jobs for Indiana, and opportunities to make education available to more people.
Due to redistricting after the 2010 Census, Johnson County is now broken into three Indiana senate districts. The county previously was split among five different senate seats.
The 41st District, representing the eastern and central parts of Johnson County, is not up for election until 2014. Greg Walker, R-Columbus, currently holds this office.
