The thick, red scar still hurts, even two months after the surgery.
Kirby Cochran can feel it when he gets up from the couch, lies down at night, even when he walks gingerly around the house. Close to 90 staples were needed to close the incision in his torso, where surgeons had replaced his dying liver with a healthy one.
For Cochran, the ache is a constant reminder that not only was he close to dying but someone had to lose a life for him to receive it.
