Lancers down Woodmen in first round; Whiteland also advances to semifinals

As the coach of the smallest school in the field, Tina Bottorf knows the Edinburgh volleyball team will need to overcome some obstacles to win the 2012 Johnson County Tournament.

But the Class A Lancers cleared a large hurdle Wednesday and beat host Class 4A Greenwood 25-16, 25-18, 25-15.

Edinburgh senior middle hitter Abbi Bryant tallied 22 kills, six blocks and two service aces against the Woodmen. The Lancers advance to a semifinal match against Class 4A Center Grove today at 5:30 p.m. in Greenwood’s auxiliary gym.

In the second match of the night, Class 4A Whiteland eliminated Class 3A Indian Creek 25-10, 25-15, 25-17, and moves on to play Class 4A Franklin today at 5:30 p.m. in the main gym at Greenwood.
