Commuters headed into Indianapolis: Your drive is about to change.
This week, highway lanes on Interstate 65 north and south and on Interstate 465 heading east have moved, and if you’re traveling at night, one or more lanes could be closed. The lines for the lanes you are used to driving on I-65 will have been repainted, moving traffic a couple of feet away from the median to allow workers to build part of the support for a new bridge. The lanes also will be a foot narrower than usual.
Don’t expect the work to end anytime soon. The lane shifts, which are part of a project to make traffic flow more smoothly at the interchange, will stay in place through the winter, Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Nathan Riggs said.
