DANVILLE
With one minute remaining in Saturday night’s Class 3A girls basketball regional final, Indian Creek trailed Mount Vernon by 12 points.
Instead of folding, the Braves dug in.
Indian Creek scored nine straight points in the next 51 seconds to pull within three at 52-49.
But with 4.7 seconds left on the clock, Marauders freshman guard Sydney Shelton sank two free throws to help lift sixth-ranked Mt. Vernon to a 54-49 win and a second-consecutive regional crown.
The Braves, who advanced to the title game by beating Greencastle, 53-39, in a semifinal matchup earlier in the day, ended their season with a 20-6 record along with Mid-Hoosier Conference
and sectional championships.
