Legislative candidates offer stark contrast: Education seen as vital issue in District 65 race

In the race for a local state representative seat, two candidates have widely different ideas on how to improve life for all Indiana voters.

Incumbent Republican Eric Koch would like the legislature to approve proposals that make the state more attractive to businesses, help expand education opportunities for students and help make higher education more affordable.

His challenger, Libertarian Al Cox, would like to get rid of all property taxes and strike down a majority of laws as unconstitutional.

The two have varying views on how to create more economic opportunity and freedoms for local residents. But both agree more needs to be done to ensure that the state emerges as a national leader in job creation and economic success.

For the first time with redistricting, the winner of the District 65 seat will represent parts of Johnson County. Next year, voters in parts of Nineveh and Hensley townships will be represented by the newly drawn district, after formerly voting in District 47.
