State Rep. Milo Smith recently was recognized for his work in getting synthetic drugs banned in Indiana.

Last month, Smith received the Indiana Addictions Issues Coalition’s 2012 Legislative Advocacy Award.

Smith was honored for authoring House Bill 1196, banning synthetic drugs such as bath salts. The award was presented at the coalition’s annual recovery cookout celebration.

The coalition is a nonprofit organization that promotes recovery through advocacy, public education and service.

Smith, R-Columbus, represents residents in parts of Johnson and Bartholomew counties.
