To the editor:

I am a candidate for Franklin schools board of trustees.

I decided, two days too late, to withdraw from this race. The clerk is unable to remove me from the ballot. However, I think it would be most fair to the other candidates to make my wish to withdraw public. This should prevent a number of voters from voting for me instead of the other candidates.

My reasoning for signing up to run was that there was no one else registered to do so other than Mr. (William) Maschmeyer in the Franklin Township race. In the last week before the deadline, five other candidates signed up for the two seats available. I see that several of the candidates are young people, and I find this to be exciting for the community. It is my opinion that two of these younger folks should be elected to these seats, allowing some young fresh ideas into the mix.

After meeting with Dr. (David) Clendening, school superintendent and Jeff Mercer, director of finance, I feel confident this crew is on a solid path with several programs planned and in progress to take the Franklin school system from a good one to a great one.
