To the editor:

Now that Whiteland Road going east is closed for construction for the next 90 days, and then next spring going west for a few months, a lot of traffic is going over to Smokey Row Road. It’s not like this road didn’t have a lot of traffic before Whiteland Road closing.

At the intersection of Smokey Row Road and State Road 135, where this is like the second-worst intersection for accidents, now the traffic backup is even worse.

This is an intersection that was supposed to have a stoplight planned for 2011, then 2012 and now October or November 2013.

This stoplight should have been in place long before the closures to Whiteland Road to make Smokey Row Road traffic flowing a lot better than it has in the past — and really now is in the present.

Better planning could have made traffic flowing a lot better now than it will be for months to come.
