To the editor:
With all the debate on whether to incorporate White River Township, I would like to offer a question.
In their June meeting, Citizens For Center Grove offered a budget for the first year of operation of a town.
They told us that $2.8 million of taxes we are already paying for riverboat, motor vehicle highway, auto excise, wheel tax, cigarette, gasoline and county adjusted gross income tax would be diverted to the town’s finances.
My question is, diverted from where? Who benefits from the $2.8 million in taxes we pay now?
How will incorporating White River Township into a town affect Johnson County’s finances?
