To the editor:
For those who live in the unincorporated area of White River Township, two things are going on that need to be addressed: First, the Johnson County sheriff is advising any and all homeowners groups and neighborhood associations to be conscious of the growing crime rates and to form Neighborhood Crime Watch associations. Basically, look out for your neighbors’ best interests and contact the sheriff if you see something suspicious.
The national economic situation has produced more and more unemployed and desperate people who are willing to come into our neighborhoods to steal anything they can sell or trade for goods or drugs.
Second, the “Citizens For Center Grove” have not taken into account the best interests of the community in this respect. Any increase in taxes should be focused on increased patrols and crime prevention efforts in the area, not an increase in taxes to pay for a town manager, a town attorney, a town engineer, a clerk-treasurer, future parks and trails and various things the proposed future town council members might decide taxes should be spent on.
The town proponents have focused on the Community of Center Grove, much like a group of pep-squad cheerleaders, as if there is a romantic cachet to the sound of Center Grove.
