To the editor:
Would you like to lower your property taxes? Hold off painting your house a few years after it needs it. Don’t fix that shutter that is hanging loose. Tear down your mini barn and cram the stuff in your garage or hide it in the weeds out back.
That’s right, if your house is in shabby condition, it affects your assessment. Your taxes will go down. Now when you get ready to sell it do all the repairs first. And if you want to save on excise tax, sell your nice car and buy a clunker.
That is how Indiana rewards the slacker. It should be the other way around. To encourage homeowners to keep their properties in good condition, give them some tax breaks. And to get the clunkers off the road, back off on the extremely high cost of plating a new car.
And the wheel tax in Johnson County is another rip-off — however, that is a fight for another day.
Thank you for a great local paper.
