To the editor:
We are writing this letter to describe how homeowners and taxpayers were treated by the Greenwood Planning Commission at a hearing on March 10. Area homeowners received notice of a hearing regarding a variance to merge two lots in the Treyborne South Commercial Subdivision. However, the true purpose was to approve the construction of a two-story multifamily apartment building. None of this information was disclosed in the required notice for the hearing.
Homeowners were blindsided at the meeting and were told they had no recuse because it had already been decided that the apartment building would be constructed. When homeowners addressed the planning commission with their concerns about the lack of information prior to the hearing, they were ignored.
As homeowners and taxpayers, we believe that the Greenwood Planning Commission failed to protect homeowners against deceptive acts.
