To the editor:
Some public officials and boards are apologizing to public employees about (getting) no pay raises for the past couple of years and in the upcoming budgets.
Average wages decreased in 2010 across the nation by 0.5 percent — no raises for many workers. No jobs for some.
In 2011, the average wage decreased 2 percent. Cuts, no raises and not enough jobs. And for 2012, wages are flat.
Public employees deserve wage increases. But please remember that if they receive raises, most of those paying the taxes to fund the raises have not seen a raise themselves for the past few years.
The late economic situation has not been great, but Americans will prevail.
