To the editor:

I was quite amazed how fast the life of a true American was thrown into the garbage heap.

The is in reference to the answer given during an interview. This person is Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger — maybe you know him. He is quite well-known as a leader in the Indiana National Guard.

The question was a legitimate one; Gen. Umbarger answered quickly and honestly as he always does. I am sure he is well-versed in U.S. Army rules and regulations as well as the Constitution.

However, he did not realize he was being blindsided if he answered this question. If he is such a fine person as I say he is, he would have said, I have to go to change into my civilian clothes before I can answer you. However, being the person he is, there would not be an ulterior motive in this question being asked at that time, while he was in military dress. Therefore, he gave his answer.

What they are doing to this man is sick. Just think back at the many times in the past four years the Constitution has been ignored and trampled on by military personnel as well as others. I am waiting for the rush to place them in the same heap with Gen. Umbarger.

What was the subject matter? Were there plans to overthrow the government or kill the president?

No. The subject matter was to help the military men and their families.
