With the goal of bringing people into local library branches, the county library district wants to become the place for people to get help finding a job, connect with social services or make sure their toddler is ready for kindergarten.
Fewer people are visiting the library district’s branches and borrowing materials. In the past three months, the number of visits to library branches declined about 12 percent compared with the same period in 2012. And officials are looking for ways to retool and refocus programs to offer more of what the community needs.
Playing a role in economic development, helping educate children and adults and becoming a hub for community information are goals for the next five years.
