Norman, my newly acquired orphan calf and subject of a recent column, is slowly rebounding. Initially treated for severe pneumonia, malnutrition, frostbite and intestinal parasites, she is now gaining weight, breathing easier, and playfully head-butting. Norman is so smart, she even orders her favorite Chinese food, Moo Moo Gai Pan. Brilliance that unique is why I am letting her write this week’s column.
Doc came out to the barn recently and said, “We need to talk.” Of course my first thought was here comes the birds and bees talk, or maybe he found out about the unexplained charges on his Visa card.
But it was neither. Instead, he mentioned he had other “fish to fry” and asked if I would write this week’s column.
I chewed on my cud for a while, for that is what we cows do when cogitating, then decided why not. To get in the mood, I put on some Sinatra, partly for the ambiance but also because Old Blue Eyes drives the horses up a wall.
