A Greenwood man was arrested again within an hour of being released from jail after police said he stole a car and ran from officers.

Matthew Barrett, 32, was arrested Friday morning on charges of auto theft and resisting a police officer.

Around 8:20 a.m., a couple had left their car running in the parking lot of Johnson Memorial Hospital while they dropped off their child at a day care inside. When they came back outside, they saw someone driving their car away. The center is located about a half-mile from the jail, and officials believe Barrett may have been walking from the jail when he saw the car, Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox said.
