Man killed in accident on State Road 37

A man died in an accident on State Road 37 in the Center Grove area early this morning.
The driver of small car ran into the back of a dump truck that was waiting at a stoplight to turn east onto Smith Valley Road, White River Township Fire Chief Jeremy Pell said. The car was going fast, and suffered heavy damage during the collision.
Paramedics found the car’s driver dead at the scene. He likely died upon impact because firefighters and police had been less than a minute away, Pell said.
Paramedics checked out the dump truck driver, who was uninjured, Pell said.
The accident took place about 7:50 a.m. in the southbound lanes of State Road 37 at the Smith Valley Road intersection.
Traffic backed up along the highway after a lane was closed in either direction to ensure the safety of investigators, Pell said.
