During the two years they were partnered together, the student and adult mentor shared homework assignments, stories about home and many games of chess.
Willis Good has spent time with six students during his seven years as a mentor, helping them study and giving them someone to talk to. As a volunteer with the Franklin Study Connection at Webb Elementary School, his job has been to keep students engaged in school and feeling like they can turn to someone who cares.
Franklin Study Connection was created in 2005 to pair students who need extra academic help or who have troubled home lives with adult mentors. The mentors meet the students for an hour each week, where they spend time on homework, talk about their lives and sometimes play chess, cards or board games.
