Commuters heading north on U.S. 31 likely are used to seeing a semitrailer rig in the ditch and tow trucks and police cars there with lights flashing.

Every few weeks, a semi driver tries to make the tight right turn at Worthsville Road and ends up sliding into the ditch, Greenwood Police Department Assistant Chief Matt Fillenwarth said.

Traffic gets backed up, sometimes for hours, because the trucks aren’t easily towed out.
