For one weekend every year, the kids who grew up on Old Smith Valley Road relive the times they spent in the neighborhood.
They tell stories about swinging on ropes over the creek that ran behind most of their houses. They can talk about the times they hung out at the Beehive Restaurant, eating perfectly grilled cheeseburgers and buying candy with their allowances.
Marathon pickup baseball games, snow cones and fish fries at the community center always make the group nostalgic.
To keep those memories alive and stay in touch, former residents have formed the Smith Valley Kids. A Facebook page links people who were raised in the area with current residents, as well as friends from surrounding neighborhoods.
The group also has started gathering every year to do a house walk, holding a potluck dinner before taking a walking tour of their old homes and the current Smith Valley.
