A monument to a shuttered school will be dedicated at a weekend festival.

The Nineveh School Monument will be dedicated at 1 p.m. today at the site of the old school.

The dedication will include programs by the Nineveh Alumni Association, Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson United School Corp. and the Indian Creek High School band.

Greenwood teacher finalist for award

A Greenwood science teacher will be one of six teachers recognized by the Indiana Department of Education at a luncheon next week.

Teresa Gross, a fifth-grade teacher at Westwood Elementary School, is a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. The award, established in 1983, serves as the nation’s highest honor for mathematics and science teachers, a department of education news release said.

More than 4,100 math and science teachers have been recognized through the award since it was founded, the news release said.
