Police and prosecutors want a child-friendly place where children who have been victims of crimes feel more comfortable talking with them.

The Johnson County Prose-cutor’s Office is opening a child advocacy center, where children who have been abused, neglected or molested can be interviewed by a counselor, Prosecutor Brad Cooper said.

The center will be in the prosecutor’s building at Main and South streets in Franklin.

Children are less likely to talk openly about their abuse with someone who intimidates them, such as a police officer in uniform, Cooper said. The center will give them a chance to talk in a friendlier atmosphere, he said.
