This is the 29th consecutive winter Indianapolis has fielded no less than two professional sports franchises geared to entice us to dream big dreams.

Enough time that we should be able to answer the question plaguing mankind since, well, 1984: is Indy a Colts city, a Pacers city or some odd concoction prone to percentage climbs and dips related to overall performance and marketability?

I’ve often heard the “When one is good, the other is bad” argument, which, if true, would make our allegiances somewhat easy. Ditch the loser — albeit if not entirely — and climb aboard the bandwagon of whichever team casts our area in a more positive light.

Doing research I discovered the 2012 Colts season combined with the 2012-13 Pacers campaign still ongoing is only the ninth time both franchises will qualify for the postseason in boom-boom fashion, one right after the other.
