Paving project to close downtown Franklin street

Sections of a downtown Franklin street will be closed for the next two months while workers rebuild the roadway and sidewalks.

Water Street will be rebuilt in two phases, and the street will be closed to traffic. Construction crews will dig out and rebuild the roadway and install new sidewalks and decorative lighting.

The street will be closed between Monroe and Jefferson streets starting Monday through Aug. 21. The second phase between Jefferson and Madison streets will be built from Aug. 24 to Sept. 24.

Repaving and sidewalk repairs are also planned on Monroe Street and Home Avenue in October. Streets should not need to be closed during those projects, but some parking spaces and sidewalks may be temporarily blocked, Franklin city engineer Travis Underhill said.
