A Greenwood restaurant was raided and its owner arrested after a nearly five-month police investigation.
Since April, police have been investigating complaints about Massey’s Pizza, located off State Road 135. Police were told that the owner used marijuana at the business and sold alcohol without a permit, according to the police report.
Undercover officers visited the restaurant six times. One of the officers purchased marijuana once, and the officers drank alcohol in the restaurant that they paid the owner for, the police report said.
On Wednesday, Greenwood police and Indiana State Excise police officers raided the restaurant. Owner Rick Carter, 51, Greenwood, was arrested on charges of maintaining a common nuisance, dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and multiple state alcohol offenses, according to a news release from Greenwood police.
Carter, who has owned the restaurant for a couple of years, said about 25 police officers came in about 6 p.m. when the restaurant was full. Carter said he was embarrassed when police kicked out his customers.
He denied selling alcohol or marijuana but said he would drink beer and smoke marijuana behind the restaurant after closing. Carter said he planned to hire an attorney.
“We don’t sell drugs, we sell pizza, and the truth will all come out,” Carter said.
