Hundreds of Greenwood residents hope that either the replacement pool or a new splash pad is named after the longtime manager of the old city pool and her husband.
The Greenwood City Council is considering whether to name either facility after Betty Dawson, who worked at the old Greenwood City Pool for more than four decades, and her husband Bill Dawson, a former Greenwood Citizen of the Year who led a local Boy Scout troop for 20 years. One option would be to rename Pool Park on Lincoln Street to Betty and Bill Dawson Park, which could commonly be known as Dawson Park, said resident Nate Robe, who helped lead the campaign.
The 5-acre park just west of Market Plaza no longer has a city pool, but will have a splash pad area where kids can play in streaming jets of water. Pool Park will need a new name since it will no longer be home to the city pool, which will likely be built at Freedom Park.
