The Center Grove girls soccer team wasted little time setting the tone for Saturday’s Class 2A sectional championship match.

Center Grove scored its first goal in the second minute of play, then added another within six minutes on the way to a 6-0 win against tournament-host Franklin.

With the win, the Trojans move on to Wednesday’s Shelbyville regional.

Heading into the match, veteran Center Grove coach Todd Sheely wasn’t sure what to expect.

“I wasn’t sure what kind of warm-up we would have with it being cold and wet for the first time all year,” Sheely said. “But the girls were focused and they were all businesslike and ready.”

Center Grove’s sectional title was its ninth in the last 10 years. The Trojans dominated during their two sectional matches, scoring a total of 14 goals and surrendering none.

In the championship match, the Trojans were impressive throughout, dominating play and keeping the ball in the Grizzly Cubs’ end.
