Two young men from southwestern Johnson County both dated the same woman for weeks before one fatally shot the other in a field where they were supposed to fight, according to police.

Trafalgar resident Justen Knapp and and Nineveh resident Bradley Kyle Price got upset when they learned that the 18-year-old woman was seeing both of them, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The woman who had a rocky relationship with Price, started seeing Knapp as well and then kept going back and forth between the two men, the affidavit said.

The men threatened each other in numerous text messages and phone calls, the affidavit said. Their dispute ended in a field about a mile north of Morgantown earlier this month, where police said Knapp repeatedly shot Price. He died.

A probable cause affidavit outlines new details, including that Knapp told police he shot Price multiple times, took them to where he later hid the handgun and volunteered to help them find the shell casings. The court document describes what led to the fatal shooting, how Knapp stood up in the interview room and acted out the scene for police and how he asked to lead them to the gun because he wanted to take one last drive if he was going to spend the rest of his life in prison.
