Center Grove football coach Eric Moore shares a light moment with sophomore running back Max Norris before a recent game. The Class 5A No. 6 Trojans where short-handed, and fatigued, during last week's 17-15 win at Terre Haute North. They hope be closer to full strength, and refreshed, for tonight's home game against Terre Haute South.

Center Grove coach Eric Moore did the unthinkable Monday and sent his players home. Told them they weren’t practicing but to come back Tuesday ready to get back after it.

What ensued were some looks of skepticism. Moore, however, was serious, and for good reason.

Forced to endure a pair of round-trip bus rides to Terre Haute North because of the strong thunderstorms that cross-body-blocked Indiana last Friday night, his fatigued team no doubt stood to benefit from a day off.

“Coming back on Friday, we got back at midnight, then had the kids back up at 6:30 the next morning,” Moore said, referring to the 11 a.m. kickoff on Saturday. “We had eight starters that didn’t play for various reasons, and nobody is there.

“We might have had 100 fans, and they had maybe 40. It was ungodly.”
