Day after day, she called to cancel appointments with doctors and specialists for medications and treatment that would help her and her husband get better.
Ruby Riota and her husband were stranded in their own home. Due to medical conditions that made them unable to walk more than a few feet, the couple couldn’t get to the curb of their street, let alone drive themselves for checkups or to get groceries.
After a year-and-a-half of canceled appointments and not being able to get to the grocery store, Riota discovered the free transportation service offered by Johnson County Senior Services that helps her and her husband get rides to doctors’ offices and to run errands. The organization provides free food, transportation, medical supplies and volunteer companions to seniors in need.
