Whiteland’s football team produced enough big plays to win Friday’s Mid-State Conference opener at Decatur Central, but special teams miscues, along with the Hawks’ kicking prowess, proved too much to overcome in a 38-21 loss.
The Warriors’ average drive started at their own 19-yard line, thanks in part to five Decatur Central touchbacks, while the Hawks started their average drive at Whiteland’s 48.
“We covered kicks well, we just didn’t kick the ball well,” Whiteland coach Darrin Fisher said.
