Even though the pool is gone, the mayor wants kids to still be able to splash around in water where they used to swim every summer in Old Town Greenwood.
Mayor Mark Myers plans to ask the Greenwood City Council for $300,000 for parks development and will recommend that the money go toward overhauling Pool Park on Lincoln Street. He would like to see Greenwood create a splash pad area for small children that would include streaming jets of water and mushroom showers.
His proposal also calls for new playground equipment to help spruce up the Old Town park.
Residents who live near Pool Park have said they don’t want to see it neglected or fall into further disrepair. Greenwood tore out the pool and most of the parking lot this summer after removing tennis courts and a slide in recent years.
