On a night that Greenwood had to play perfect to remain perfect, it did not.

Whiteland took advantage of key Woodmen turnovers and defensive lapses to knock Class 4A No. 3 Greenwood from the unbeaten ranks on the last night of the regular season, 56-35.

Senior running back Aaron Harris scored on runs of 90, 20 and 43 yards, and quarterback Adam Gutermuth torched the Woodmen secondary with two long second-half touchdown passes as the Warriors scored eight of the 11 times they had the ball.

“They took it to us,” said Greenwood coach Mike Campbell, whose team fell to 8-1 in their attempt for their first perfect season since 2003. Even with the loss, the Woodmen still win the Mid-State Conference at 5-1.
