Make no mistake, coach Mike Leonard isn’t OK with an 0-2 start.

But he’s not despondent about it.

That’s because the winless Franklin College football team hasn’t lost anything with regard to its primary objective, which is to win a third-straight Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship.

Step one begins today at Manchester (0-2), the HCAC opener for both teams.

Ranked No. 20 in the D3football.com Top 25, the Grizzlies are determined to set a new course following lopsided nonconference losses against No. 2 Mount Union and NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Butler.

“The preseason games are done, and the good news is, you made the team,” Leonard told players in the postgame locker room after last week’s 42-13 loss at Butler. “Now the regular-season games are going to start, and this is where we’re at. This is where we are.

“It’s about winning the conference championship.”
