The National Weather Service has determined that extensive storm damage on the west side of Edinburgh Tuesday evening was caused by a microburst, rather than a tornado.

Half of the bleachers on the south side of the Edinburgh High School athletic field were picked up, twisted, and dropped upside down, according to Johnson County Emergency Preparedness Director Stephanie Sichting.

At Rest Haven Cemetery, located near U.S. 31 on the town's southwest side, high winds from the 7:30 p.m. storm uprooted or damaged near 70 trees, according to Edinburgh Police Chief David Mann.
