The Edinburgh child who died after being hit by a car Friday will be remembered as a classmate who was eager to do his work and help others, his teacher said.
Ethan Powell, 10, was a fourth-grade student at East Side Elementary School in Edinburgh.
Teachers plan to spend today listening to students share stories about Powell.
“He was just delightful. He was just real special. I enjoyed having him in class immensely,” said his teacher, Linda Storie.
Ethan was quick to help other students with class projects, smiled often and had beautiful brown eyes, she said. He was kind, polite, a conscientious rule follower and a student who would finish and turn in assignments before they were due, she said. The class was studying animals in National Geographic books, and Ethan made his cardboard animal habitat project more than a week early.
He was a favorite teammate when the students played kickball on the playground and paired up to read books or work math problems together in class, Storie said.
“It seemed like a lot of the boys in our classroom considered Ethan their best friend,” she said.
Counselors and parents will be at the school to talk to students, including those in Ethan’s class and his brother’s third-grade class.
