Theatrical Crash Course: Center Grove students learn musical in one week

With each beat and repeated lyric, the students moved closer to mastering the song.

The director sang two lines. About a dozen kids repeated the lines. He marked beat by slapping his leg.

Ten minutes later, the students — in kindergarten through eighth grade — had learned the whole song.

Missoula Children’s Theater rolled into Center Grove recently, helping 58 children learn and perform the hourlong “Tortoise vs. The Hare” in just six days.

The project is billed as a theater feeding program for the high school and a fundraiser for the technical theater club, which sponsors the visit.
