A community group that opposes creating a town in the Center Grove area is asking for more signatures against the proposal.
The group will have a drive-thru petition signing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Sugar Grove Elementary School, 4135 West Smith Valley Road.
The group is trying to gather enough signatures to block further consideration of the proposal to create a new town in White River Township, or at least to persuade the Johnson County Commissioners to vote against it.
The proposal, made by another community group, calls for creating a town of about 27,000 residents in the Center Grove area. The town would charge a new property tax rate, give residents the opportunity to serve on boards and become responsible for services that Johnson County government now mainly provides.
