Nine of Joe and Diane Hollowell’s 11 children earned a diploma from Roncalli High School. The youngest two in time will.
Six sons ranging in age from 17 to 33 know the sensation of being a Rebels football player and, thus, an entity much larger than themselves. Perspiring through weightlifting sessions in the school’s legendary blockhouse, donning the red home jersey, emerging from a nearby cluster of trees and charging onto the field prior to Roncalli home games.
And playing for head coach Bruce Scifres.
Scifres, 55, is in his 23rd season as the school’s head coach. He has called the shots through 10 of the Rebels’ 16 sectional crowns, nine of their 13 regional titles and six of Roncalli’s eight state football championships.
