Vectren Energy is asking customers to be aware of a scam using the utility company’s name.
People claiming to be from the energy company have called customers and asked them to make a payment or their utility will be shut off.
Customers are then instructed to get a prepaid debit card and give the card number to the purported employee, who then has access to the money.
People who are contacted by someone claiming to be from the company should call 800-277-1376 to verify.
