Woman accused of accidentally shooting into neighbor's apartment

A Franklin woman was arrested after she told police she accidentally shot a gun into the floor, lodging a bullet into a neighbor’s apartment.

Linda Smith, 40, 3584 S. U.S. 31, was arrested on a charge of criminal recklessness.

A man called the police at 8:52 p.m. Friday after a neighbor shot the gun through their apartment floor. The bullet went into the man’s apartment through the ceiling and penetrated an end table and a clock, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Smith told police she was twirling the gun in her apartment when the firearm discharged. She knew the gun was loaded but thought the safety was on. No one was injured, according to the report.
