A woman suffered a serious head injury at Whiteland Raceway Park after her hair was caught in the axle of the kart she was driving.
Shelbi Crouch, 19, of Indianapolis, was taken by medical helicopter to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She suffered skull fractures, Whiteland Fire Chief David Gabbard said.
Crouch was listed in fair condition Monday at Methodist.
Crouch was not in a planned race but was driving for fun with three or four people at the raceway, 654 N. Front St., shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
She hit a bump, knocking her back in the seat. That caused her hair to get caught in the axle of the kart, which can travel up to 40 or 50 mph, Gabbard said.
