Picking the clarinet as his instrument was a fluke for Nick Ramey.

He spent years singing in his church’s choir and didn’t play an instrument.

A friend decided she was going to play the instrument in sixth grade. He saw that she had signed up to play the clarinet and added his name to the list.

Six years later, the Greenwood Community High School senior has been picked for a selective statewide band.

Ramey was chosen to participate in the Indiana High School All-State Band festival. More than 750 students auditioned, and 165 were chosen.
