Delford B. Whitaker, 83, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at Franciscan St. Francis Health-Indianapolis. He was a longtime resident of Bargersville.
He was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Laural County, Ky., the son of Wilson B. and Minnie (VanHook) Whitaker. He married Rosemary Utterback on April 29, 1949.
She lovingly survives in Bargersville. Other survivors include children, Randy and wife, Carol, Whitaker of Bargersville, Debbie and husband, Bob, Norman of Franklin and Regina and husband, Rich, Hine of Greenwood; grandchildren, Kevin (Cindy) Whitaker, Kelly (Andy) Shaul, J.J. Hinton, Jeremy Gerton, Josh Arkins, Angie (Matt) Ray and Nathan Arkins; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hermena (Bob) Stultz of Franklin.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; a brother, Roscoe; and five sisters, Estella, Elta, Carrie, Kathleen and Bonnie.
Delford attended school in Kentucky. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a skilled mechanic in the set-up department with Allison Transmission Division of General Motors, retiring after 40-plus years of service.
Delford was a member of Franklin First Assembly of God. He enjoyed bowling, participating in many bowling leagues in Greenwood, Indianapolis and Franklin over the years. He enjoyed gardening and traveling with his wife, Rosemary.
Delford loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved being “PapPap” to them.
Phillip Curtis will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted.
